Since our founding in 2000, the Friends have campaigned tirelessly to safeguard Strawberry Hill and it is with great pride that we have seen the result of our hard work since opening.
We are fortunate to have received grants from the Heritage Lottery Fund for much of the work and are extremely grateful for the continuing generosity of Trusts and individual donors; however, Strawberry Hill receives no government subsidy and is independent from larger bodies such as English Heritage or the National Trust. The Friends’ valuable contribution is, therefore, critical in ensuring that the House continues to flourish.
Five of Walpole's 'private' rooms have now been restored and will open to the public for the first time in 2015. The garden is approaching completion and now looks magnificent. However, there is much still to do, primarily the research into Strawberry Hill's lost treasures. Walpole's famous collection was sold in the 19th century and now we hope to find and return as many of his objects as possible to the house.
