Our Garden Cafe occupies the ambient Great Cloister of Strawberry Hill House and enjoys glorious views across Horace Walpole’s 18th Century naturalistic garden.
Strawberry Hill House’s gift shop is open to the public during general opening hours. We offer a selection of books and souvenirs relevant to the House alongside a variety of gifts.
Northern Bloc ice cream is also available for purchase.
We want everyone who visits Strawberry Hill to enjoy their experience. Visitors who require additional assistance can either speak to a member of staff when they arrive at the House or notify the team in advance.
Accessing the Grounds
The Garden and Café are wheelchair accessible via a smooth path without steps. Access across the garden is over the lawn which can be a little uneven underfoot.
Access in the House
Inside the House the ground floor is completely accessible, and a lift gives access to the first floor, where the majority of our rooms are located. If you require use of the lift, please speak to a member of our team who would be happy to help.
Unfortunately, the lift does not give access to the second floor and therefore three rooms are inaccessible by wheelchair: the Library, Horace Walpole’s Bedchamber, and the Plaid Bedchamber.
However, the Strawberry Hill House app is available to view, showcasing all the rooms through a virtual tour and our room stewards are on hand to answer any questions about the app or the rooms. The app is also available to download on the Google Play store and the App Store.
Assistance Dogs
Strawberry Hill understands that some visitors to the House will require the support of an assistance dog and we are happy to admit appropriately trained assistance dogs into the House.
Blue Badge Parking
There are five blue badge parking spaces in our car park. We also offer a blue badge holder discount and carers gain free entry on general admission tickets.
Large print Interpretation
There are large print interpretation on each of our rooms in the room folders, which our room stewards are on hand to help with.
Mobility aids
There are two wheelchairs available at the front of the House entrance. Chairs are also situated in many of the rooms, please ask a member of staff for assistance.
Dementia Friendly Site
Our staff and volunteers have been trained to ensure that Strawberry Hill House is a dementia friendly site.
