Strawberry Hill House Stars in Netflix’s The Sandman

We’re delighted to reveal that Strawberry Hill House features as a key filming location in Season 2 of The Sandman, now streaming on Netflix. Scenes set in the magical realm of Faerie were filmed in some of our most atmospheric and iconic rooms:

Once Horace Walpole’s treasure cabinet inspired by the Tribuna at Florence’s Uffizi, The Tribune becomes the bedchamber of Lady Nuala, faerie courtier to Queen Titania — its jewel-like splendour echoes Nuala’s sense of captivity: a bird in a gilded cage, enclosed by beauty but stripped of freedom.

The Long Gallery, with its crimson damask walls, fan-vaulted ceiling, and gothic tracery recesses, becomes the site of Cluracan’s decadent revels — a room that mirrors his carefree excess.

Lastly, The Round Room, with its curved bay window of stained glass and Robert Adam’s intricate fireplace (inspired by Edward the Confessor’s Tomb), serves as Cluracan’s private parlour.

Overall, the decadent aesthetic of Strawberry Hill House was the perfect stand-in for Faerie: a realm that is beautiful, strange, and ever so slightly unsettling.

Now, you can visit the real Faerie realm yourself.

Strawberry Hill House is open 7 days a week until 7 September, offering the chance to explore this extraordinary Gothic villa in full summer light. Created by Horace Walpole in the 18th century as a theatrical home of stories and imagination, the House continues to inspire writers, artists — and now, filmmakers.

Plan your visit today to walk through the film-set that brought Faerie to life.
