Join us for a fascinating Insight Curator-Led tour of our landmark exhibition, Henry VIII’s Lost Dagger: From the Tudor Court to the Victorian Stage, with Dr Silvia Davoli (Principal Curator of Strawberry Hill House) on Tuesday 25 November, 6-7.30pm.
This special event is exclusively for named Members and Patrons only (Patrons, Membership Plus and Member with Guest can purchase two tickets) and offers you the opportunity to enjoy an engaging, private guided tour of this exhibition with its Principal Curator after-hours.
This landmark exhibition traces the extraordinary story of a jewel-encrusted Ottoman dagger that Horace Walpole believed once belonged to Henry VIII. Sold at the famous 1842 Strawberry Hill sale to Shakespearean actor Charles John Kean, the dagger vanished after last being seen at Hever Castle in 1946. However, two remarkably similar daggers survive and for the first time, these extraordinary objects will be displayed together, revealing a fascinating story that may connect them all.
Through original research, world-class loans, and collaboration with the Garrick Club, this exhibition explores how a single lost object continues to illuminate the networks between Ottoman courts, Tudor England, Victorian theatre, and Horace Walpole.
